There is something that God has set aside for you and me that is good. You have an inheritance, and so let me share a few things about this particular inheritance before we go to Scripture. This inheritance that God has set aside for you cannot be seized; hear me, no one can steal this from you. It cannot be taken; it is reserved in a dimension that the enemy cannot access. So, it is yours. It cannot be seized, but it can go unclaimed. Uh-oh, are you hearing me? It can go unclaimed. Now, let’s go to the Word quickly. I want to refer to Paul in Ephesians chapter 1. Paul, oh my, you talk about run-on sentences! I get it because Paul was so full of revelation that just when he thought he was stopping, boom! The Holy Ghost would kick in again, and he would have to continue. What God did with Paul, I believe God will do with you if you dig in and press into Him. God made Paul rich in revelation. Anyone want to be rich in revelation? Yeah, yeah! So here’s Paul talking, and I’m just going to pull out a few points, and I’ll stop when I feel I need to, and then we’ll discuss a few things before I tag my partner.
Paul says in Ephesians 1, beginning at verse 3, «Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has”—now I want you to pay attention to this—“who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.» That is important! Let me provide some context. Paul is talking to relatively new believers who have come out of the world. I don’t know about you, but I came out of the world too. My background is in business and technology. If you had come to me 25 years ago and said, «PT, you’d be preaching and pastoring, ” I would have said, „What have you been smoking, and where can I find it?“ I apologize for that, but you need to know where your pastor came from.
So, the Church of Ephesus was saved, but they had some interesting cultures and backgrounds. Paul was trying to build them up, train them, and passionately encourage them regarding what they possessed. One of the most challenging things for a believer is to truly understand what they received when they accepted Jesus. Come on, when you got Jesus, what did you get? Peter says in one place that God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness—essentially, if I may paraphrase, „through the knowledge of the One who called us to virtue and excellence.“ So here’s the issue: ignorance is not bliss. If I possess something but don’t know it, I cannot act on it. I might be wandering around like a slave, like an orphan, or like someone who is impoverished or grief-stricken, not even realizing I have the answer to what I’m praying for.
That is often the reality for believers. David says in Psalm 23, „The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.“ A better translation, when studied in Hebrew, clarifies, „I have no lack.“ Often, we walk around with a consciousness of lack, but this consciousness of lack is actually ignorance of abundance. Wow! He says, „The Lord is my shepherd; I have no lack.“ In other words, I don’t perceive lack. If I align myself with God as I ought to, I will not only lack nothing, but I also won’t perceive lack. One of the things that keeps you from abundance is a lack consciousness.
You’re always focused on what you don’t have. However, real Kingdom people aren’t worried about what they lack; they maintain a mentality of abundance. Are you hearing me? So, Paul is trying to reveal to them what they possess. I need to manage my time because I don’t want to go over. So, Paul is trying to teach them what they have. I love his language. He says, „Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us.“ Look at the language; he has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Some of you may have gotten discouraged right there because you don’t typically pray for a spiritual blessing. When you think about your prayers, you might not see your problem as a spiritual one.
You may be praying for some sort of earthly issue, not recognizing that to every earthly problem, there is a spiritual remedy. How do I know? Because the spiritual realm precedes the natural. Come on! So, if I had to choose where I wanted God to bless me, God, bless me in the…
