So today we’re going to look at the Healing Ministry of Jesus, and I’m excited to teach this to you because these are keys that I’ve picked up along the way after being in the Healing Ministry. I’ve been involved in the Healing Ministry since I was 13 years old—I’m now 26—so it’s been almost 13 years, approaching 14 years. I think it’s important not just to look at man or to focus on people who’ve gone before us. I do, of course, honor individuals like Oral Roberts, Kathryn Kuhlman, and A.A. Allen. Though many of them had their flaws, they were still instruments used by God for His healing power to flow through their lives and touch others. Often, you may look at sick individuals, you may look at those in need, and say, «Lord, use my life in that same way. I want to be a vessel of healing so that when I touch them and pray for them, heaven responds to my request as I lay hands on them.» It truly is a grace. The Healing Ministry is not something that is man-made; it cannot be cultivated by my own free will. It’s something I must connect with God for, and God has to endow you with the healing touch on your life. There is the gift of healing, the Great Commission that comes with healing, and then there’s also that special grace of healing that God places on certain believers. It’s evident because some believers seem to have, if I may call it this, a higher success rate when it comes to the healing power of God. Although I hesitate to call it that, since we are not necessarily supposed to be results-driven but rather obedience-driven, it is important to acknowledge that there are special graces and gifts for certain things. I think it’s crucial to look to the greatest healing evangelist of all time, who is Jesus Christ. He exemplified the perfect Healing Ministry. He neither went to the extremes of the bizarre nor did he conform to the extremes of religion; he didn’t put on a show or seek to make a name for himself. Jesus had the perfect perspective, the perfect power, and the perfect presentation of the Healing Ministry on Earth as it should have been. He is truly the ultimate standard. You see, if we keep measuring the Healing Ministry by other ministries, although we honor the men and women who have gone before us, we may pick up some of the negative aspects, too. In my life, I have encountered certain elements that I wouldn’t consider the best, which were imparted through other healing ministries. When I observe this, I say, «Okay, Lord, you need to remove the flaws; you need to eliminate what was imparted, because we receive everything when we are imparted to from someone else.» Thus, it is important, although we look to men for inspiration or leadership, as Paul the Apostle wrote, «Follow me as I follow Christ,» that we filter everything through Christ Jesus so that we know we are looking to the ultimate standard, which is Christ himself and not man. The ultimate standard is Christ, and there are dangers that arise when we look to man as the ultimate example. Specifically, as we move down from generation to generation, if it’s man copying man copying man, you know this: if you receive a copy of a copy of a copy, eventually those copies begin to lose details and take on imperfections that blur the image and cause it to become skewed. The more often this occurs, the more distorted the image becomes. However, when you have the original and make copies of it, those copies are crisp and clean, with fewer flaws. Though a copy will always have some flaws, it’s as if Christ is the marvelous light and we are merely mirrors. If we reflect off other mirrors that reflect that light, we start to lose brightness, and there may also be smudges and cracks on some mirrors. Thus, we begin to lose clarity, and the image becomes skewed. We must look to the image of Jesus; we must examine how he did it, how he responded to people, and how he viewed the healing power of God. What was his lifestyle like? You know, if you want the healing power of Christ, you must embody the lifestyle of Christ. To heal like Jesus, you must walk like Jesus; to operate in that kind of power, you must obey God as Jesus obeyed God. The benefits of Christlikeness are that you become a reflection of the perfect image rather than a reflection of a man or woman from generations past. Again, I want to reiterate that it’s important we receive impartation from spiritual generals or from people who possess that grace in their lives. That’s how impartation occurs. In fact, Paul wrote to Timothy that he received gifts through the laying on of his hands, although the gift ultimately came from Christ. So, number one, it is essential that we look to Jesus, the greatest healing evangelist of all time. Now, I will examine some keys.
