All right, so we’re in Romans chapter one. Listen, we need to get out of chapter one today, okay? We have to get out of chapter one today. What I want to do, though, is group some of the Scriptures together. We won’t go verse by verse through the book of Romans—if we did that, we’d be here until 2030! But I want to group some of these Scriptures and ensure that I’m conveying the gist of what Paul is discussing in this letter.
Now, if you’re not familiar with it—or if you haven’t watched our very first video in this Reset series—you need to watch it because I explain what the book of Romans is, who wrote it, and why he wrote it. You cannot understand the content without understanding the context. The Bible has been used as a tool to build people; watch this—but it’s also been used as a weapon to destroy people. Come on, yep, the Bible’s been used that way. Now, it’s God’s intention for it to be used as a tool to build people, so that they can construct their lives based on the principles of this book. But when it is misinterpreted, it doesn’t build people; it becomes a weapon used to destroy them.
Even the Bible says that the Bible needs to be rightly divided or properly interpreted. See, even the Bible acknowledges this about itself! Oh, did you hear what I just said? If you’re tracking with me, say, «I feel you.» Put that in the chat: «I feel you.» Paul told Timothy to study and show himself approved, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The word of truth—the Word of God—can be rightly divided or interpreted, meaning it can also be wrongly divided or interpreted. When it is divided rightly, accurately, or faithfully to the author’s original intent, it builds you. However, when it is misinterpreted, the same book that is supposed to set you free keeps you bound.
Do you know how many people are bound because of what—watch this—they misread in the Bible? Listen to me. Some people are oppressed; they are limited because of what they misread from the Bible or what they were fed from it by people they trusted. Now, I discussed this in a masterclass I did last year called «Biblical Intelligence,» which led up to my online program called «Everyday Seminary.» We only open enrollment for it once a year, for those of you who asked about it. You can go to everydayseminary.com to find out more information. That’s for the hungry, those who say, «I want to go deeper; I want to know more, and I want to get seminary-level revelation and knowledge.» But I want it to apply to my everyday life, which is why we call it Everyday Seminary.
So, we walk through some of these issues on how people are often trapped because of those they trusted—people they trusted who were feeding them misinterpretations of the Bible. For example, «Money is the root of all evil.» That’s not what the Bible says! It does not say that; it says we should not worship it. It says it is uncertain and advises against putting your trust in it because it is unreliable. The stock market is unpredictable; your job is unpredictable—excuse me, it is uncertain and unreliable. Don’t trust in it! But the Bible never says it’s the root of all evil; it says the love of money is the root of all evil.
You see, there are times when we need deliverance and liberation from the world, and there are times when we need it from our misinterpretations of the Word. Glory! I hope I’m making sense here. What we’re seeing in the first chapter of Romans is Paul trying to reset people in the area of their religion. I know we read a little bit of this last week, but I want to pick back up with this today. I want you to see what Paul says in verse 16 of chapter one: he says, «I am not ashamed of the gospel because it, the gospel, is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.» Listen to this: I love Paul’s declaration that he’s not ashamed of the gospel! I love his refusal to be embarrassed by God, even though from time to time he may feel embarrassed by Christians.
Is this too real? If it’s not too real, just put «no cap"—for those of you who want to see, put «no cap,» which means no lie. He says, «I’m not ashamed.» We can’t confuse other Christians with God. They are children of God, but they are not God. We should never be ashamed of God simply because we’re embarrassed by Christians. Do you know how many things Christians do from time to time—or people do in the name of Christ—that are embarrassing and unbiblical, operating with zeal but not according to knowledge? Paul says, «I’m not ashamed of the gospel.» Why? He says the gospel actually is the power of God.
