Hey, we’re back at Bible study on Tuesday nights, and I’m grateful that you’ve joined us tonight, wherever you are in the world. As a matter of fact, I just received a quick report about the many people who are joining us tonight, and I’m excited about that. Thank you all for being a part of our Bible study this evening. I want to give God thanks for you, no matter where you are in the world. We have 19 states, 21 states, and five international locations joining us. Thank you, wherever you are in the world: Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Nigeria, Jamaica, St. Vincent, Grenada, and the Grenadines. We also have 21 states represented, including Illinois, Mississippi, and Massachusetts. Thank you for joining us! I’m so honored that you all put this on your calendars and made it a part of your schedules to attend our Bible study on Tuesday nights. I know we 've had these long breaks in December and January, which has given me an opportunity to refresh, prepare, and recoup, so I’m thankful for all of you joining us today.
Please put a shout-out in the chat if you’re here for the first time tonight. We’re in the Book of Romans. We 've gone through eight chapters of Romans, and we’re about to pick up in just a moment, starting at chapter nine. We hope to cover those in the next few weeks. So, let’s open up with prayer. Please join me in prayer. Father, we thank You for Your loving kindness and tender mercies that You extend to us, allowing us to study Your word together. I pray that You would anoint us to be Your instruments and Your conduits. Father, as You allow us to be the channel through which You can speak to Your people, bring clarity to Your message and Your truth. I pray, Father, that if anyone is here not in the right place with You, You might speak to them, Lord. Speak to their hearts and draw the unsaved, backslidden, unsure, uncommitted, and unchurched people to respond to You. Allow those who just need a word from You to receive it. We ask this in the precious and mighty name of our resurrected Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Alrighty, we are in the Book of Romans, and chapter nine is where we’re focusing tonight. Let me reiterate that I can’t cover the first eight chapters, so I won’t go through those, but there is so much in this book that focuses on theology. It is a theological book communicating truths that people need to know and understand. The Apostle Paul wrote this while he was in Corinth to the church in Rome. We recognize it was written somewhere in the mid to late 50s AD. We know that the majority of the members in the church in Rome were Gentiles, with some Jews. Paul is trying to help the Jews in the church understand that we aren’t trying to bring people back to a place of comprehending the Jewish law, nor must they keep the Jewish law. A significant part of what Paul argues is that people don’t get saved because they kept the Jewish law. God saves us solely through our faith in Jesus Christ, and we need to understand that we are not saved by works or by keeping the law. Our relationship with God depends solely on placing our faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and in the person of Jesus. I don’t want you all to ever forget that we are people of faith, and we serve a God who does that.
So, we’re going to pick up in Romans chapter nine, and this chapter, like two of the chapters we’ve read and studied, has 33 verses. We 'll go through it verse by verse and truth by truth. If you 're new here tonight, one of our chat hosts would love to hear from you, so please stick a one in the chat. We want to know you’re there, and they might share that you can access Bible study notes where you can fill in the blanks. You can find that tool at fbcglenarden.org/biblestudy, and you’ll be able to view the notes for tonight. Most of the slides I’m going to show will be available for you to see, with just certain areas for you to fill in. So, I encourage you to do that. Paul is trying to bring clarity to both Jews and Gentiles about what they need to do to be saved. Let 's pick up with chapter nine, and though I’m tempted to try to…
