Good evening, good evening, good evening, everybody! God bless you, and thank you for joining us tonight, wherever you are in the world. I am so thankful for your consistency. Our members are so faithful and dedicated in what they do, and thank you for being with us. Wherever you are in the world, wherever you are in the country, I welcome you tonight to our Tuesday night Bible study. I hope that you’re doing well, and that God is blessing you and favoring you in supernatural ways.
I am in the middle of this teaching from the Book of Romans, and we will be focusing on Romans chapter 5 tonight. We 're going to take a look at what the Apostle Paul had to say to the church in Rome. So, let 's discuss that. As a quick, cursory review, let me mention that the Apostle Paul writes to the church in Rome from Corinth. He is in Corinth, writing to the saints in Rome. This church comprises both Jews and Gentiles; some members are Gentiles, while others are Jews. He covers a lot of theological issues in this book of Romans, making it profound and important. I believe it’s crucial for us to recognize some key points in this text.
We 've already established that the Apostle is repeatedly trying to make the Jewish people understand that Gentiles can also be saved, and that’s great news to know because, whether you realize it or not, you and I are Gentiles. God made it possible for us to have salvation and a relationship with Him. He wants to drive this point home. Additionally, he emphasizes that salvation comes by faith and not by works. So, we want to keep that in mind.
We 're going to pick up in chapter 5 tonight, which is where we ended with chapter 4 last time. But let me pray before we begin, and I am grateful for all of you who consistently join us no matter where you are in the world. I am thankful, so let’s take a moment and pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your loving kindness and tender mercies that You extend to us. Thank You for the Word of God that You 've given us to learn, study, and apply to our lives. I pray that You take these next moments of our evening together tonight and speak to us, opening our eyes to the revelation of Your truth. Help people understand the significance of the teachings in this book. We pray that You would illuminate their eyes and give them understanding. If there are those watching this broadcast and this teaching who are unsaved, backslidden, unsure, unchurched, or even just weak or concerned, I pray that You would accomplish what You desire in the name of Jesus through their lives and through the Word of God. Help us to be Your instrument and conduit to convey Your truth, allowing hearts to receive it in the name of the Lord Jesus. We pray, amen and amen.
All right, we’re going to start tonight in Romans chapter 5. The heading for these first five verses is: «Our Faith Gives Us God’s Peace and Hope.» Because we have faith in the Lord Jesus, and because we put our confidence and trust in Him, it gives us peace and hope. That is what these first five verses will discuss.
Let 's begin by looking at verse number one: «Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.» Hold on to that thought. This is a very important point. We have peace with God through our faith in Jesus Christ. Because we put our faith in Jesus, He gives us peace. This is significant because if you don’t have peace-if you don’t have an internal settlement in your heart-then it might indicate that you’re not really operating in peace. This is one of those cornerstone verses that people have learned: we have been justified by faith.
Since we’ve been justified, and that word justification means that God makes us holy, He transfers us from an unholy state to a holy state. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we don’t need to have anxiety or fear about encountering or standing before the judgment seat of God. We can have the confidence of knowing that by faith, we have been justified. What does justification mean? It means God makes you holy; it means God declares you innocent. He declares us innocent even though we’ve been guilty of so many things.
Here 's what the blood of Jesus does for us: The blood of Jesus cleanses us, washes us, and gives us the ability to stand before God as innocent. Isn 't that amazing? Just by the simple act of putting our absolute confidence in Him, we receive this incredible gift.
