Dharius Daniels - Repositioning Your Relationships, the Right Way

I’m so honored that we are a trusted source of encouragement in your life. We are incredibly grateful for that. I want to provide you with a little context for the video you are about to watch. This is actually a training I conducted for my community called Daniel’s Den. Daniel’s Den is a tribe of people; we say it’s God’s people doing good work in the public sector for the common good. It’s a group of individuals who realize, like I did years ago, that part of the problems in my life aren’t just going to be solved by spiritual development; I need personal development as well. There are areas where we need to grow in spiritual intelligence, emotional intelligence, relational intelligence, and leadership intelligence. So there’s this community, this tribe that we call Daniel’s Den, and we get the name from a gentleman who modeled this in scripture because his name was Daniel, as in the lion’s den.

It’s really a personal development group that is just incredible. I conducted this training for them, and I felt it was so important that I wanted to share it with my larger community. So I told my team, «Hey, I know this is normally exclusively for the Den, but I want you to share this with our YouTube family as well.» I believe that at some point or another, everyone will have to reposition a relationship, and I want to help you do this as effectively as possible, considering the circumstances you are dealing with. What’s up and welcome to the Den! As always, I want you to know how proud I am of you. I mean that genuinely, because you have a revelation that will cause a revolution in your life. You understand something that I think more people need to grasp: the importance of investing in yourself. It is a spiritual law—the law of sowing and reaping. You are sowing into your own development, and you’re going to reap. There is nothing on Earth that will provide a return on your investment like the investment you make in yourself. There’s no house you can flip, no stock you can invest in, and no fund you can participate in that will give you the kind of return that you can achieve through personal development. You understand this, and I’m excited to partner with you on this journey.

One of the things that motivated me to create this tribe and lead this community is that I understand what it means to live ethically while still not living well. I experienced burnout, feeling overwhelmed and overcommitted, while money was coming in but going out just as fast. If you don’t tell your money where to go, you’ll wonder where it went. I didn’t know where it was going, and those issues were causing pain in my life, none of which were ethical issues. My issue wasn’t just spiritual development; it was personal development. It was personal development combined with spiritual development that revolutionized my life, and that is what this tribe is about—God’s people doing good work in the public sector for the common good.

I’m excited about this module; we are now in Module Five, marking our fifth time coaching and teaching on the subject of relational intelligence. This month, I want you to catch this: we are going to talk about one thing—repositioning relationships. If you’ve never had to reposition a relationship, it likely means you are suffering from stagnation. There’s no way you can change and not re-evaluate some of your relationships. I want to walk you through this, and in this first lesson, I’ll discuss the purpose of repositioning.

Jim Collins, the author of the book «Good to Great,» which researched and identified principles, traits, and characteristics from some of the most successful companies, is credited with a quote suggesting that great companies get the right people on the bus and then get those right people in the right seats. I think this statement is a powerful depiction of relational intelligence in our lives. When you get the right people on the bus, we need to position them appropriately in our lives. I have developed an evolving definition of relational intelligence: it is the ability to know who needs to be in your life, where they need to be positioned, and how to properly manage them once they are part of your life. So, who needs to be in my life, where do they need to be, and how do I manage those relationships?

This is why I think Jim Collins’s imagery is appropriate because we all are trying to identify the right people in our lives and place them in the right seats.
