Father, we thank You for Your loving kindness and Your tender mercy. You are a great God, and we honor You. We love You, and we humbly bow our heads and our hearts before You. We love You and bless Your holy and righteous name. Thank You for Your loving kindness and Tender Mercies toward us. Father, I pray in the name of the Lord for You to take these next moments and anoint them. Allow Your Word to prevail; let Your truth permeate and be received by Your people. Let me be an instrument, a conduit for the truth that somebody needs for salvation, reclamation, restoration, assurance, or even planting. May Your perfect will be accomplished in the name of Jesus. Father, I thank You for what You 've already done and what You will do. I’m praying for salvation for someone, restoration for someone, assurance for someone, and planting for someone. Lord, in the name of Jesus-not just in this building, but God, all around the world. I thank You for the 20 states and the seven nations where people are watching us. Allow them to hear Your Word. In Jesus ' name, amen and amen.
You can be seated. All right, open your Bibles to Hebrews chapter 6. This is the next part of my series that we are doing here. Just for those who may be guests for the first time, our church 's focus for 2024 is discipleship. This is a part of what we do; it’s our vision and mission statement. We are taking our vision and mission statement and putting it on times two; we’re putting it on steroids. I’ve been highlighting it and challenging people to ensure that they have been discipled and are being discipled, while also making sure that they are discipling someone else.
For the past several weeks, I have been teaching you on some things that you can ensure you know and understand, but also making sure that you are teaching someone else. What we have done is go to Hebrews chapter 6, which tells us what the elementary doctrines of faith are-the elementary beliefs. Hebrews 6:1 says, «Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to maturity .» It says, «Let us go on to perfection,» not laying again the foundation of… The verse one and two list six foundational truths. The first one is repentance from dead works. We talked about that two weeks ago. Repentance from dead works- a dead work is something that will not bring you salvation. He says to repent from that; repent from doing things that you think will get you saved.
Repentance from dead works. Last week, we talked about faith toward God. This is doctrine number two: faith toward God. We are people of faith; we believe in God, amen? Thank you to all 15 of you! I appreciate it. The others didn’t clap because they’re writing, and that’s fine-go ahead and write. We are people of faith; we believe that we serve a God who works things out for us, who fixes, repairs, delivers, and heals. We believe that! We 've seen it; we’ve watched Him open doors that we thought could never be opened. We’ve watched Him perform miracles; we’ve seen God fix things that we thought could never be fixed. We know He can do it.
Today is the third part, which is in verse two: the doctrine of baptisms. So today, that’s what I want to talk to you about-I want to discuss baptism. Somebody say «baptisms.» Baptisms- notice it has an «s» on it. It means there is more than one type of baptism, and today, I’m going to teach you what those five are. I won’t be able to go into detail on all five, but I will at least make you aware of what the other four are, and I’m going to provide you with scriptures because I know that the 10:00 crowd goes home, opens up their Bibles, and reflects on all the verses that the pastor gives them-liar, liar, pants on fire! But at some point in your journey, I pray that you will go back and read and have at least a cursory understanding of what these five baptisms are and what they mean.
Here 's what baptism means: It is a Greek word that means to be immersed, submerged, overwhelmed. It means to be fully wet. That 's why in our church, when we baptize you, we don’t sprinkle you; we dip you. Tell your neighbor, «You need to go down again.» We cover you; we fully cover you by dipping you in a baptismal pool. I’m going to discuss this in detail today, but that’s what the word baptism means- baptizo is the Greek word, and it means to be fully wet, fully immersed, overwhelmed, submerged, dipped-to be wholly covered. Here are the five types of baptisms; let me tell you what they are.
The first one is repentance. Matthew 3:1 and Mark 1:4-this will be on the screen. You can write it down or take a note.
