God told me to speak on this subject today-made to order. Everybody say, «Made to order.» You know, I’ve been preaching since I was 14 years old, but I did have some other jobs. When I was in college, I used to work at a cellphone company called Centennial Wireless, installing stereo systems in cars. That was back when, I hope they don’t still do it, but maybe they do-when young dudes drove around with 15s in the trunk. They still do that, and you could hear the trunk rattling from a mile away. It was always a Cutlass or something like that. We used to install radios, and as I did that, I also worked at a steel factory. That lasted about a week because it was hot. We used to blast steel, and you blast steel with steel, so every once in a while, one of those hot pieces of steel would get loose out of the blaster and hit me on the neck. I knew this wasn’t God’s will for my life.
I’ve had a lot of jobs. I used to put roofs on houses in the summertime in Wisconsin. I would go up there with one of my college roommates; his father had a roofing company, so we would go up there to put roofs on houses-anything to survive because I didn’t grow up in a house of means. Once my mother dropped me off, I had to become a man and figure it out for myself. But let me tell you about my first job at 6, which was the most memorable job. I worked at Taco Bell. Yeah, I worked at Taco Bell, and my mother started off as the manager of the local Taco Bell. Then she spread her wings and became the regional manager over all the Taco Bells in our area. Let me tell you, the first leader I ever met was my mother. She was the first leader that I ever met, and let me tell you something about that woman: she was the same at work as she was at home. She made sure that we followed orders and protocols. At an early age, we could not call grown people by their first names. She would say, «You better put a handle on that name,» so it was «Yes, ma’am» and «No, sir» our entire lives. She had us in order, and her leadership style was a shared leadership style. In other words, she made sure that all of us in the house shared all the responsibilities. One week I would wash the dishes, and another one of my sisters would do the vacuuming, while another sister would do another chore. She ensured that we all knew how to do everything.
I knew how to fold my clothes, and to this day, if you go in my sock drawer, all of my socks are still together because she made us put them together. I rebuke anybody who has a loose sock ministry. If I go to your house and you have all your socks just loose, and you come outside with one of them pink and the other one white, I bind you — it’s a satanic work, okay? My mama ensured that whites were washed with whites and colors were washed with colors. Listen, and towels were washed with towels. I rebuke you if you put your towels and your clothes in the same wash because you want to save time-it’s the work of the devil. She made sure that we folded our t-shirts in the drawer. You didn’t just open our drawers and stuff us everywhere. I know some of you are looking at me, but I’m talking about order. The reason why I’m encouraging you to do this is, number one, the way you do anything is how you do everything. If you don’t care about certain things, then you typically have an " I don’t care» spirit.
I want to speak to people right now: if I left this building and wanted to get into your car, you would keep the door locked for 5 minutes, trying to get enough stuff off the seat so I can get in with you. Get those bags out of your trunk; get those clothes out of your trunk. Somebody shout «Order!» Now do me a favor: look left and look right. If they look messy, look at them right now. Look at them; they 're like this. «Go get to the Word, Reverend! Didn 't nobody come here for no cleaning reps!» I’m just talking about order. Everybody say «Order!» Come on, say it again, say «Order!» The way she did it at home, she did it at work. So working at Taco Bell, she made sure we all shared it. Let me tell you about my mom: not only did she become the regional manager of Taco Bell, but she also hired me. She hired all my sisters and all of our friends, so on any given day, you would walk into a Taco Bell full of people either related to my mother or hired by her. Yeah, she put us all on. Everybody say she put us on! She made sure that we treated that fast food restaurant like it was Ruth 's Chris. She made us treat that restaurant like it was Steak 48...
