Dharius Daniels - A Good Worshiper Remembers the Things God Has done

Women break up, men take breaks. That’s completely different. It’s like I haven’t heard from you in two years, and now you’re going to send me a «What are you doing?» text? Nothing to do with you moving on, getting better, drinking my water, minding my business, and getting stronger spiritually. In this particular context, we had some colloquialisms, and I’m not saying that these colloquialisms or sayings are exclusive to our context. I’m just saying that they were things I heard in my context. Here’s one of those colloquialisms: maybe you’re not from Kill Michael, but perhaps you’ve heard this one—you don’t miss your water until your well runs dry. In other words, sometimes it takes something being absent for someone to see it was an asset. Yeah, the thing didn’t become an asset when it became absent; it simply took being absent for others to recognize and get a revelation that it was an asset. There was nothing wrong with the thing or the person’s value; there was something wrong with someone else’s vision. It was only when they didn’t have it—or didn’t have you—that they realized and recognized how much they needed you. Then all of a sudden, you start receiving these random texts. I don’t even have time to deal with this; this is a relationship series. Women break up, men take breaks. That’s completely different! Nothing to do with you moving on, getting better, drinking my water, minding my business, and getting stronger spiritually. Laughs. It took absence for people to recognize that there was an asset. However, when they were with you, they didn’t have a revelation or recognition of who you were, and as a result, they treated something rare as if it were common. You had worth, but they didn’t see the worth, so they didn’t treat you like you were worthy until they remembered. Their memory gave them a revelation of your worth. I’ll say it one more time: their memory gave them a revelation of your worth. One more time, family: their memory gave them a revelation of your worth. And just as this is the case with relationships with people, it is also the case with our relationship with God. A good worshiper is simply someone who has a good memory. I’m going to say that one more time, because I want to make sure the people in New Jersey heard what I said. I want to make sure the people on Change Global heard what I said, and I want to make sure the people here in «the A» heard what I said: a good worshiper is simply someone who has a good memory. A good worshiper does not always have a good past; a good worshiper has not always made good decisions; a good worshiper has not always had good ethics; a good worshiper has not always had a good economic condition. But there’s one thing that separates the ordinary from the extraordinary; there’s one thing that separates the grateful from the ungrateful: they have a good memory. This is how they said it at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kill Michael, Mississippi: when I think… So, as I was thinking through and reflecting on God, how can I responsibly steward the burden I sense to raise the worship temperature in the context of our congregation? Not where there is uniformity, because there are different expressions of worship in Scripture. Different types of personalities will need different types of expressions. So the Bible gives us a plethora of practices so that no matter how you’re wired, you can find your way somewhere. In Scripture, it says to clap your hands; if you don’t want to clap them, it says lift your hands; if you don’t want to lift, it says shout; if you don’t want to shout, it says the Lord is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silent and reflect. But everybody may not do the same thing, yet everybody should do something! However, that cannot happen; no matter how tactical we get and how inspiring we are, there cannot be an expression of worth in worship without a revelation of worth. When those people didn’t have you in their life, you didn’t become more valuable; you were always valuable. They didn’t have a revelation of your value because people don’t treat you in a way that’s consistent with your value. People treat you in a way that’s consistent with their revelation of it. I know it’s not a relationship series, but this is why I’m praying, God sends you somebody who has the vision to see the value that God placed in you. I’ve got to move on, but some of us are in a season where we are too old, too grown, and have too much responsibility to be attempting to convince people of our value and worth. We need people with vision; am I making sense here? Since I was thinking through, man, what does this look like for a church? They cannot worship beyond their revelation of my worth; you can’t push them into expressions outwardly that don’t align with convictions inwardly. I said, «People, are you hearing what I’m saying?» Yeah, and so I’m like, «Okay, God, how can I…» And we’re going to work through this through the rest of this series.
