Rhema Ehiemere - Thank You for Disappointing Me

On your way, say to your neighbor, «Thank you for disappointing me, thank you for anointing me.» Can we turn on the lights, please? Can we turn on the lights in the house? Thank you, thank you for disappointing me. The story in our text is very significant because this was the first recorded miracle of the apostles, who were formerly disciples of Jesus. After Jesus had gone to heaven, if you will recall, He gave His disciples, now apostles, what we call the Great Commission—to go into all the world and preach the gospel, right? But that was Jesus’s Great Commission; it was not His last instruction. Jesus’s last instruction was actually to wait. Acts 1:4 says Jesus said, «Wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father,» which is the Holy Spirit. Yes, the Great Commission is to go, but the last instruction is to wait.

So, what happened is that in Acts chapter 2, all the apostles were together in one accord, and as Jesus had said, there was a sound as of a mighty rushing wind, and every single one of them in the house had a cloven tongue of fire. Everyone had a flame; it didn’t matter if you were a child, a man, or a woman—everyone had a flame. Everything inside that place had a flame, as described in Acts chapter 2.

Now, we see in Acts chapter 3; in fact, the Bible says they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began—this is very important because the Holy Spirit begins things in your life. Maybe the reason why you haven’t begun is that you’re not yet filled. We see in Acts chapter 3 they were filled with power in Acts chapter 2, and then in Acts chapter 3, they began to perform miracles. This is important because many of us don’t understand that God does not anoint you to show off but to show up. God does not empower you to sit but to serve. There are people who have prostituted the gift, thinking that the gift of God is to make a living, but the gift of God is to make a difference in people’s lives.

I came to announce to you this morning that when God anoints you, it is for His service and for a purpose; it is not a title and not a position. If you don’t use it, you will lose it. You can’t just sit on it and say, «I’ve been anointed as an apostle; I’ve been filled with the Holy Ghost.» No, the proof that you are filled is when you go and do something with it because the power of God is not for decoration; the power of God is for demonstration. Jesus knew this because many times we think it’s an achievement without realizing it’s an assignment. So Jesus says, «Wait till you have the Holy Spirit.» The reason this is important is that Jesus knew that if you do the work of God without the power of God, you will be frustrated.

Most people are trying to move a car from point A to point B; most of you would just drive. But doing work without the power of God is like getting out of the car to push it—that’s how frustrating it can be to do the work of God without the power of God. I need you to understand in this season that many people can explain God but cannot experience Him.

The Bible says in Romans 8:19 that the whole earth is waiting not for an explanation but for a manifestation of the sons of God. The power of God is not what you explain; the power of God is what you experience. So there are many broke people who can explain that God is a provider, but that is not enough. There are many sick people who can explain that God is a healer, but that is not enough. There are many depressed people who can explain that the joy of the Lord is our strength, but that is not enough. An explanation is not enough. What the world responds to is excellence and evidence. We want to see proof; we want to see a testimony; we want to see a sign and a wonder; we want to see a miracle. That’s what the world is waiting for. Somebody say, «Preach!» Manifest the power of God!

I’m tired of explaining God; I want to experience Him. I don’t know about you, but if you live long enough, you will need a miracle. If you live long enough, you will need evidence or proof that God is still at work in your life. I’m tired of telling people that God is a healer while my body is broken. I’m tired of saying God is a keeper while I’m still scared. I’m tired of saying God can restore, and yet I’m still dealing with the past. I’m tired of explaining God without experiencing Him.

I don’t know about you but look for your neighbor, the one who is tired and sick and tired of being sick and tired, and tell them this is your season to manifest. This is your season to experience God in a tangible way. I’m tired of explaining; I’m tired of talking about it. It’s time to be about it; it’s time to see it.
