Keion Henderson - Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity
In this video, Pastor Keion Henderson discusses a passage from John chapter 8 where Jesus encounters a woman caught in adultery. He emphasizes the importance of not judging others, as we all have flaws and make mistakes. Pastor Henderson reflects on generational trauma and the need to break negative patterns. That self-reflection, authenticity, and embracing one’s past while showing gratitude for God’s forgiveness and grace is encouraged. He urges the audience to drop judgmental attitudes and acknowledge their imperfections while seeking accountability and mentorship.
Let me tell you what the Lord told me to talk to you about today: not guilty by reason of insanity. That 's what I want to discuss today. Touch your neighbor and say, «I’m not guilty by reason of insanity.» You may be seated in the presence of the Lord.
Bishop Roberts, recently I read a story about two monks who had joined a monastery. As is the custom for all new monks, their first job is to be a scribe. But what does that mean? It means to write the scriptures — to transcribe, to scribe, to write. So the job of all new monks in the monastery is to copy the original text of the church, the Bible, the scripture, from Genesis all the way to Revelation. However, history teaches us that there are only so many chapters and verses in a book. Just imagine if all of us joined this church one by one and our job was to copy the Bible word for word. It wouldn’t be long before, by the time we got off the first row, nobody would be copying the original text; we’d all be copying copies.
You see, we’d be copying copies, and the problem with that, and I’d be the first to admit it, is that no one is perfect. Go back and check your last three text messages and see how many words you’ve misspelled. Most of us don’t even know what we 're saying when we text. We have to send a question mark back. Thank God they added the edit feature! But we’re spelling «there» t-h-e-r-e when we should be spelling it t-h-e-r-e. We’re spelling «to» t-o instead of t-o-o, or sometimes t-w-o. I don’t know how you made that mistake, but no one’s perfect.
This means that by the time I get to Brandon, he’s copying what Lonnie wrote, and if Lonnie misspelled a word, then Brandon is going to misspell it too because he believes it’s perfect. So he’s just copying a copy. In other words, the errors are passed on. Here’s what’s amazing about this: when I go back into canonical history and look at the original transcript of scripture, many of us don’t know that John chapter 7, from the last verse through John chapter 8, verse 11, are missing from the original text. This means that if you delve into history and find the original text, a scribe somewhere intentionally left this part out of the Bible.
Well, this is a crime scene. A woman is caught in the act of adultery, and there are two groups of people at the scene: one group is called the Pharisees, the other group the scribes. The scribes are responsible for writing the text. Now, is there anybody in the room who finds it interesting that when the story was written about the people who were present at the crime scene, the ones writing left themselves out of the narrative? If you had the ability to be guilty and also write law, my question is: wouldn’t you leave yourself out too?
Now, I know a lot of people like to pretend they’re honest, but if you committed a crime-and let me say, when you committed that crime, and nobody witnessed it-it’s not like you went to the police station and said, «I’d like to come in and confess that the cashier forgot to check one of the items, and I got home and found out I didn’t pay for it, so I came back to let you know .» No, you probably said something like, «The Lord loves His own children; I mean, He’d look out for His own.» It must be Jesus! If you found ten thousand dollars on the street today, you’re not going to run down and ask Isaiah on «The Isaiah Factor,» «Listen, I’d like to hold a press conference to find out who this ten thousand belongs to.» You 're going to see that ten thousand and say, «Oh Jesus, I knew you were going to deliver the wealth of the wicked!»
And since there are errors in the text, the scribes intentionally leave themselves out of the story because they are part and parcel to a woman caught in the act of adultery. You have to understand what adultery means in these days and times, because today, adultery may cost you 60 percent; in those days, it would have cost you everything, including your life. Those who were caught in adultery were to be stoned to death.
Now, here is the issue: the Bible says in Leviticus 20: 10 that if an adulterer or adulteress is caught in the act of adultery, both of them should be stoned to death. But the text shows that while the scribes were writing, they passed on the errors; it was a woman caught in the act of adultery. My question is, if you caught her, you have to have caught him, because having sex alone is not adultery; that’s just masturbation. Oh no, don’t get quiet now! I knew when I said that y’all were going to act funny, but there’s one quote that says 98 percent of people do it and the other two percent are liars. So don’t sit in here all holy, acting like, " I can’t believe they do that!» You see how quiet it got? They be lying! Man, I’m telling you people come to church and act like I’m not talking to them. No, I’m talking to you! I didn’t wait a month to come and talk to somebody else.
