Thank you for joining us tonight, wherever you are in the world. As a matter of fact, I’ve been told we have 18 different states represented tonight, and I just want to take a moment to celebrate people from all over the country who are watching us and being a part of this. I see we have people from South Carolina, Minnesota, New York, Michigan, California, Tennessee, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, the state of Washington, New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut, and Indiana. Oh Lord, and around the world, we have viewers from India, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. A big shout-out to all of you for joining us tonight! I’m so proud that we have people who join us because they want to know the Word of God and they want to be taught clearly and plainly. I’m honored that you carve out the time on Tuesday evenings to join us, and even if you’re not watching this live but viewing it later as a broadcast, I’m proud and honored that you have taken the time to seek knowledge.
Why is this important? It’s important because what you believe dictates your behavior, your actions, where you place your confidence, and where you put your trust. I want us to be crystal clear about what we believe and where we put our trust, and I’m so thankful for that. I have some verses I want to share with you tonight. You know, I was going to use my iPhone to look up these verses, but I’m going to ask my alma bearer to run to my office and get my Bible because I left it there. So, I’ll ask him to do that for me. Thank you! I hope you have your notes ready to take notes. Many of you who join us every Tuesday know that you can go to a specific location to fill in the blanks for notes, print it out, or email it to yourself later. Let me urge you; they are going to put that up on the screen in just a moment. There it is, so you can go ahead and visit that location, and the notes for tonight will be available there.
Father, I pray that you take these next few moments, these next minutes, and give us clarity of thought, clarity of direction, and clarity of presentation so that your people, your sons and daughters, might have clarity about the Word of God, about the truth of who you are and the truth of your teachings. Let them be able to distinguish with clarity between what is right and what is wrong, what is holy and what is pleasing in your sight and what is not. It is my prayer, Father, that someone 's ill-advised belief might be corrected, so that we can walk in the truth of who You are. As we pray today, we are also praying for unsaved persons, for backslidden individuals, and for those who are unsure, uncommitted, and unchurched. God, draw them to yourself, almighty God, draw them into your kingdom so that they might be in the center of your will. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.
All right! I just received a note that we also have a couple more states represented: Louisiana and Oklahoma. Hey, give a shout-out so we know who you are and where you are! If you’re here for the first time, we always encourage our first-time visitors to say something. If this is your first time joining us for Bible study, one of our hosts will give you a shout-out and acknowledge your presence. We are grateful for all of you who are joining us here tonight!
If it’s your first time, let me share that we are in a series on the six key doctrines of our faith. There are many other doctrines, but we have identified six key ones that make a significant difference and are key to where we’re going and what we believe. I want to make sure that you know what it is you believe and why you believe it. If you haven’t been able to see those teachings, you can find them on our YouTube channel or our website, as we want you to be crystal clear on what you believe.
So far, we have covered the first doctrine: the doctrine of the source of authority. What gives us authority? What dictates what we believe? We believe that the source of authority is the Scriptures. People have all kinds of sources of authority. Some organizations use something other than the Bible. We rely on the 66 books of the Scriptures, the Holy Bible, as our source of authority. We went through all the reasons why we believe in the Scriptures, why we put our trust in them, why we study them, and why we strive to obey them. We can stand on them, preach about them, govern our lives by them, and make decisions based on them. Everyone believes in something, and the question is: What do you believe in? Because what you believe will dictate your choices, your behavior, and your actions. We believe that the Scriptures have the right and authority to speak to us in that way and to hold us accountable.
