In life, we often find ourselves in a season of construction—where God is building us up, yet people have opinions about our progress. Just like Noah, who was given the task of building an ark for a season he had never seen, we are sometimes called to build things without prior experience. But when God gives you an assignment, He provides the grace to complete it. Rest is a strategy, not just a break—Noah, whose name means «rest,» was called to work, teaching us that true productivity comes from trusting in God’s plan. While people talk, God builds. While opinions swirl, purpose unfolds. This is your season of elevation, and though it may come with scrutiny, don’t let distractions deter your destiny. Build in obedience, even when it seems illogical, because when you follow God’s instructions, the rain—the blessing—is coming. If you build it, God will fill it! Get ready for what’s next—because what’s coming will not only surprise others but will surprise you, too!
On your way to your seat, tell your neighbor that the rain is coming. The rain is coming; the rain is coming! Uh, I am a meteorologist. I’ve looked at the weather forecasts, and God sent me down here to tell you that the rain is coming. You better get ready for it because the rain is coming.
So, I have three kids: Asher, Annabel, and Abigail—a son and two daughters. My kids are very, very inquisitive. The other day, a couple of years ago, we were driving by a construction site where we live in an estate; they were just building it up. They saw this building that was under construction, a work in progress, and all of a sudden, they began to ask me questions about a house that I did not have a clue about. They began to say things like, «Daddy, why is this the color of the brick? Why is it red? And why are they painting it white? What will be the color of the cabinets, and why is the backyard very small?» I was like, «Listen, I don’t know! I don’t understand; I’m not a building contractor. I’m clueless about all of this!»
While I was trying to explain, people of God, I got into another street, and I kid you not, they changed the topic just while I was trying to explain what I didn’t have an answer for. They changed the topic! Then I thought they were concerned about the building; I didn’t know they were just having a conversation. All of a sudden, it dawned on me that just because people are having a conversation about you doesn’t mean they are concerned about you. I need to say it for those in the back: just because people are having a conversation about you doesn’t mean they are concerned about you! Just because people have conversations doesn’t mean they are concerned. Please don’t confuse a conversation with a concern.
Just like my kids were talking and having a conversation about that building, it dawned on me; my mind came back to this: 1 Corinthians 3:9 says that we are God’s building, which means that we are in a season of construction, and God is building us up. Watch this! If God is building you up, we all know what happens in the construction site: people always drive by, and it’s a mess, it’s a joke, it’s just chaos. When God is building you up, you have to understand that there are those who will drive by your life and have opinions about the color of your walls, the color of your cabinets, and why she is doing that and why he is doing that. And you have to be okay with that! God told me to tell you that you are still under construction. If you are under construction, you have to be okay with people having conversations about you.
Can you handle this season of elevation? Can you handle this? Yes, this season is an opportunity, but this season comes with responsibility. In this season, God is building you up, and when God is building you up, people are going to have something to say about it. It’s called free publicity! I don’t have to sponsor an ad on Facebook or YouTube; I don’t have to do any of that! When people begin to talk about you, it’s free publicity. Because when people cannot handle your elevation, they settle for being your distraction! Before anyone had an opinion about you, God made a decision about you. So look at your neighbor and ask them, «Can you handle this?» What did they say? Can you handle this? You are not ready for destiny until you can handle scrutiny, because people are going to say things about you. People are going to have opinions about you. People are going to have things to say about you—just like my kids!
Isn’t it amazing how people will have an opinion about you but will never make a decision for you? There is a cost to chasing your destiny and pursuing what God has called you to do; sometimes you may lose your privacy, and you might be open to scrutiny. Listen to me! You might not be able to handle your reputation publicly, but you can handle your integrity privately. When you handle your integrity privately long enough, you will see that your reputation begins to change.
I have a problem with people who behave like they are interested in me but are not invested in me. You don’t have a stake in my life, yet you want to have a say in my life? Help me make it make sense! You are not bringing anything into the construction of the building, yet you want to determine the color. Oh no! It’s not your building; it’s not your blueprint; you don’t know anything about it! Just keep your mouth shut. You are in a season where God is building you up, and when God is building you up, people are going to say things about you. But what they are saying cannot stop what God is building in your life. While they are talking, God is building. While they are criticizing you, God is elevating you. While they are backbiting you, God is elevating you. While they are complaining about you, God is building you up.
Look for your neighbor and find somebody who knows what to do with this type of atmosphere.
